22 News – May 2024

It’s official – winter starts in two weeks and we’re already feeling the chills.

We’ve recently welcomed two new engineers, Amon Watanabe and Ayush Prasad, who have already proven to be excellent additions to the team. The Grey, a boutique apartment building close to our HQ is now complete. The team presented a well received guest lecture at AUT as part of our tertiary outreach programme and ‘22 Brew’ has kicked off again with our first beer almost ready.

The Grey

“The Grey” in Grey Lynn was officially completed a couple of weeks ago with 35 apartments spread across 6 floors now opening their doors. These premium apartments have sweeping views of Auckland CBD, Waitematā Harbour and the Waitākere Ranges.

From a services perspective, the complexity of this building came from its stepped structure which consisted of large shell beams creating highly limited means of reticulating services throughout the space. All penetrations were heavily coordinated with the structural team and cast into the beams enabling this striking façade to work effortlessly.

22 Degrees has extensive experience in apartment building services design and has worked alongside Paul Brown & Associates for years. For this project we were engaged for Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulics and Fire Protection, which involved coordination both internally and externally using BIM360.

AUT Guest Lecture

Image preview

Earlier this month we gave a lecture on the building services industry at AUT as a part of their engineering employer series. The presentation touched on the key elements of the building services industry and gave students an opportunity to visualise their career post-study and understand how their learnings can be applied to real world situations.

The lecture was given by two of team who graduated from AUT. It was great for them to return as engineers to share their career progression stories and help drum up excitement for building services.

The presentation was well received by the university. There were lots of intelligent and insightful questions about the industry and enquiries about employment opportunities with 22 Degrees – as well as positive feedback on the sushi provided!

As part of our company vision to be renowned as a learning hub, we have been actively targeting opportunities to work with universities and give back to the engineering community. We have more exciting initiatives planned this year so stay tuned!

22 Brew

After a short break our 22 Brew initiative has kicked off again with a new crew steering the ship.

For our first batch, we’re going for a classic Hazy IPA. We’ve mixed Juicy Sessions IPA with malt extract and yeast to start the fermentation process. Next week we’ll add the hops and once it’s sat for a couple of days, it will be time to chill and clarify (and then finally, enjoy!).
