Freemans Bay School

About Freemans Bay School

The Freemans Bay School site, located in one of Auckland city’s earliest settled areas, previously contained 1960s school buildings, playing fields, and car parking facilities. To make way for the new development, all existing buildings, except one, were removed.

The redevelopment of Freemans Bay School aims to create a forward-looking modern learning center. It includes a new learning block, a multi-purpose hall, a library, an administration building, and Rumaki Whanau Ata, the school’s Māori Immersion Unit. The new design features advanced ‘innovative learning environments’ with 80-90 pupils per classroom in open-plan learning spaces. These spaces are well-connected and utilise new building materials and technologies.
