Situated on the corner of Ponsonby Road and Richmond Road, Ponsonby Central is fast becoming an iconic focal point on the local streetscape. The renovated complex is bursting at the seams with retail outlets of rustically presented, diverse cuisine food stalls in an open space setting. Individual tenancies had their own architects and interior designers, with many fit-outs involving gas and water reticulation, as well as kitchen extract hood and ductwork design throughout.

Ponsonby Central was masterplanned by Jones Architects, with the design reflecting a rustic industrial aesthetic. Recycled flooring, sandblasted concrete columns, and stripped-back bricks are used throughout, creating a unique and cohesive look. The main façade features a perforated metal sheet screen designed by a Te Arawa artist to represent a korowai (cloak), adding a cultural touch to the contemporary design.

The complex is organized into three zones: a produce market at the rear, restaurants in The Lane, and homeware retailers along Ponsonby Road. This thoughtful layout enhances the shopping and dining experience, making Ponsonby Central a vibrant community hub.
