The Gardens School

About The Gardens School
The Gardens School in Manurewa is a newly constructed facility that replaces the older school’s buildings that were plagued by weathertightness and structural issues.
The school features three levels of large, open-plan innovative learning commons arranged around a central corridor. These commons include group study spaces and private nooks for individual work. Large open voids connect the floors, and stairwells link the heart of the school, the library, and central gathering spaces.
Sun control is managed passively with large eaves providing shade, while flexible perimeter glazing allows for natural cross ventilation. This design ensures a comfortable interior climate throughout the year. Additionally, the strategic placement of triple-height voids and a north-facing clerestory efficiently distributes fresh air and light across the first and third levels
